What are the top 5 wedding planning mistakes to avoid? We have the wedding planner insider tips!
Going Over-budget
Brace yourself, this is the scariest thing that could happen when planning your wedding! The reason we go over budget with our clients in our first meeting is so we’re all on the same page about wedding expectations vs. reality. The first step to planning a wedding is to know exactly where your budget will be allotted to and what priorities you have set for your big day. It can become easy as the day approaches to spend extra on last minute items or splurge on details that may inhibit spending on other important areas. Utilize free websites and tools such as WeddingWire to outline your budget.
Not Having a Backup Plan
We’re talking weather. It happens. We always have a backup weather plan involved with our clients. Without the proper planning, a beautiful outdoor wedding can easily become a rained-out disaster without having a tent alternative or indoor option! We always make sure we go over a Plan B back up plan with our clients in case the weather changes and we need to move everything under cover.
Over(or Under)Booking Vendors
The classic vendor faux pas. It happens more often than you think. Vendors are often booked before any idea of timeline is considered, so the amount of time on the contract can fall short. Something we make sure our clients pay attention to is the time frame they are expecting from their vendors, so all arrivals and departures are in line with your expectations!
Incomplete Timeline
Speaking of the timeline, this is such an important part of a cohesive wedding day. Crafting the perfect timeline means attention to detail. With so many moving pieces to the day, your wedding planner can tie all those details together from your morning hair and makeup to the last song by the DJ. An incomplete timeline only touches on major events in the day. A complete timeline will include a nearly to the minute scope on everything that will take place, so it is much more likely to stay on schedule. More importantly, a completely detailed timeline will keep all your vendors working together smoothly.
No Time To Enjoy the Moment!
When everything comes together, the most important part is your time as a couple. All the planning pays off when you have a moment to sit back and enjoy your special day. Our ultimate goal when coordinating your vendors and crafting your timeline is to emphasize your time together. We always include buffer time, so you have moments to relax. We also encourage our couples to take time by themselves between photos and cocktail hour or the reception to enjoy some food and quiet. So often a wedding day is so exciting and busy it flies by! Having small moments together will allow you to enjoy your day to the fullest.
