The holidays are here!
Where to begin when planning a holiday gathering? We have some tips on major pieces to address when planning your holiday party or event whether it is for friends and family or a company gathering.
Venue
Choosing a venue is often based on how many guests are being invited and what feel you are going for. Company gatherings can take place either in an office conference space or in a private room at a restaurant or hotel. More personal family and friends’ gatherings are best at someone’s home for that intimate feel. Make sure your space can fit how many people are being invited and offers space for mingling and seating.
Catering
Your menu should reflect the holiday and guests’ culinary tastes. A corporate event can offer passed hors d’oeurves and stations so they can work their way around the room. A home holiday party can involve outside catering or a homemade meal with a potluck aspect where you invite your guests to bring their favorite dish. This is a great way to allow your friends and family to participate in the evening and show off their cooking skills.
Theme
Choosing a theme can lend to the holiday you are celebrating. A holiday feast is a perfect time for a theme of giving thanks and giving back to the community. Ask your guests to bring a non-perishable food item and arrange a donation with a local food pantry or donation bank. For parties around the winter solstice, toy drives are a similar way to give back to your community. If you are celebrating with family, a secret gift swap is a fun way to exchange small gifts without the pressure.
Décor
Keep décor simple and tasteful. Depending on your venue and type of party you may not have to bring in much, or at all! If you are hosting a company event, it is always great to bring in some giveaways or logo items to display. A family gathering allows you some more flexibility—but don’t go overboard! Some subtle candles, mood music, and a festive tablecloth will do the trick. Set out matching table settings and a matching napkin to complete the look. A small thank you gift or homemade and packaged dessert treat is a great way to leave something for each of your guests to take home.
